![]() It is not worth the risk of getting kicked out. Then they will keep it closed for several days. Have a back-up plan even if you are not there during hurricane season. We got kicked out after 3 days of our 8 day stay, for a forecasted one hour thunderstorm. Any moderate rain or wind will cause potential flooding of the road/campground or sand covering the road. This campground will be evacuated and closed for any moderately bad weather. Lots of tent campers so am guessing those facilities are well-used. We saw that in action.īathhouse’s were not great and laundry was broken. if u get one disrespectful camper, the whole loop will suffer. I feel like we were one of the few staying the longest. Daily cocktail loop walks were a highlight! Quiet nights & pretty quiet during the day too. And almost everyone camping seemed very respectful. Ur sorta camping in a field-type of environment. Boy! There are a lot of campers … it’s like watching a live moving RV show. We were wrong! We loved everything! We were in loop C. We had been expecting to not like the campground, but had resolved to put up with it given its location & proximity to the beach. There is a bike/hike trail to the fort and it is the northern most point of the Florida Scenic trail. ![]() Walk the boardwalk to the beach at night to see the ghost crabs all over the beach and possibly see dune mice. The beaches were wide, white and uncrowded. There is a boardwalk to the ocean side beach across from the campground entrance and another path to the bay side beach from the campground. Saw dolphins, sea turtle and a manatee off the pier while fishing. You can fish off the large pier near the fort without a fishing license which was great fun. Occasionally you will hear jets from the military base across the bay. The fort is somewhat interesting and you can watch the Blue Angels practice on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10AM from the fort. After 8:00 only campers are allowed in and you are given a code to enter. Before getting to the lakeshore the area is very congested with shops, hotels and tourists but as soon as you get to the park boundary it is pristine. There is limited off site parking to put your tow vehicle and you may be turned away if trailer AND tow vehicle are too long for the site. ![]() Camp hosts were great! Many pads in the sites are short and you are not allowed to park your car on the grass or sideways on your site. No sewer hook ups but there is a dump station. Campground B-E could use a few more trees but it was great with water and electricity.
